Restaurant Brand “Oriental Noodle and Dumpling Hub”
My name of the restaurant brand I did in Fall 2023 in Type II: Making Meaning class is “Oriental Noodle & Dumpling Hub" . I considered a Chinese restaurant with lots of authentic foods for most American college students to try tasting at affordable prices. Noodles and dumplings are my favorite dishes, so I picked them as the main dishes of this restaurant and these are served in different varieties. There are other dishes like tofu and fried rice. I also considered for Americans to try tasting specialty drinks like milk tea, tea lattes, slushes, and smoothies, as well as desserts. The supporting graphics alongside the noodle and dumpling logo are inspired by the vegetable ingredients that are often used to make noodles and dumplings. The reason why this restaurant is appealing to me is because my parents came from China so I had a big interest in Chinese cuisine. The most appropriate type of form is the English writing typed in Chinese traditional writing so it can be associated with Chinese culture. The color yellow symbolizes royalty, power, hope and prosperity, making this a very lucky color, while black adds professionalism and reliability with values of sophistication and luxury to make contrast. The medium for the restaurant menu is Mohawk smooth ultrawhite 81PT heavyweight paper. It was first printed on this paper and then cutted into single sheets that consist of the size 8 inches x 11.5 inches. Finally it is tucked in the pages of the 8-View/4 Page Transparent Clear Restaurant Menu Cover. It was completed on February 20, 2025. The pair of take-out boxes have different two sizes, one smaller and other bigger, depending on how much food the box carries in a single dish. The bigger take-out box’s size is 7.4 inches x 5.8 inches x 2 inches. The smaller take-out box’s size is 6.6 inches x 5.1 inches x 1.8 inches. Both have holes being cut with 1.2 inches wide and made of Mohawk smooth ultrawhite 81PT heavyweight paper similar to the restaurant brand. Both were completed on March 13, 2025. The plastic soup box is attached with a restaurant brand sticker on the lid (made of plastic labels) and its size is 4.9 inches wide with a circumference of 15.49 inches. Its overall height of the soup packaging is 4.4 inches tall, and 4.7 inches wide. This plastic soup packaging actually came from the empty Panera Bread broccoli cheddar soup after being used. It was completed on March 10, 2025. The style guide consists of information regarding font and layout settings to give a standardized look to certain documents, and it has 20 pages total. The size of the style guide is 8.5 inches x 11 inches. The main cover of the style guide is made of premium glossy photo paper and the pages are made of Mohawk Superfine Eggshell Ultrawhite 65C paper. The pages are glued via PVA liquid on the edge attached between the front and back covers. It was completed on March 19, 2025. There are applications in this brand besides the menu, style guide, take-out boxes and plastic soup box with lid, such as bookmarks, ballpoint pens, stickers, magnets, a T-shirt, and a tote bag. The bookmarks (set of 5) ordered and designed via Vistaprint are made of premium glossy and its size is approx. 6 inches wide x 2 inches tall. The ballpoint pens (set of 3) also ordered and designed via Vistaprint are 5.6 inches tall and 1.4 inches wide. The cover is made of label sticker plastic. The die-cut magnets (set of 3) ordered and designed via StickerYou are 5 inches wide and 3.31 inches tall and are in oval shape with a circumference of 26.49 inches. These magnets are made of acetate plastic. The die-cut stickers (set of 13) also ordered and designed via StickerYou are 3 inches wide and 1.86 inches tall. These stickers are made of removable white vinyl (semi-glossy) label paper. The shirt was originally manufactured by Gridan, its size is adult medium (20 inches wide and 28 inches tall), and it is made of heavy cotton. I used graphic transfer paper and sharpie to draw the graphic patterns, logo, and the brand trueline on the shirt directly by hand. We may assume that this black ink writing is being oriental because of this restaurant brand’s culture tradition. This shirt was completed on March 18, 2025. The tote bag ordered and designed via Zazzle is a budget tote that can carry the entire restaurant brand items including the restaurant menu, style guide, plastic soup packaging, take-out boxes, and other applications. Its size is 15.75 tall and 15.25 inches wide, it is made of 4.75 oz. 100% cotton, it has cotton handles with stress point reinforced stitching, and it is also washable. This restaurant branding has neither received any awards yet nor as a group project.
